Nvidia's Deep Learning Dynamic Super Resolution tech is out now – here's how to enable it

Sharpness-boosting characteristic piggybacks on God of State of war optimisation commuter

The World Serpent speaks to Kratos and Atreus in a scene from God of War.

Before this calendar week, Nvidia quietly announced a kind of DLSS-side by side downsampling tech: Deep Learning Dynamic Super Resolution (DLDSR). It aims to ameliorate image sharpness and quality on GeForce RTX graphics cards, using AI to reduce the operation loss of Nvidia's existing DSR feature, and information technology's now available to install and enable through GeForce Game Gear up Driver 511.23.

This is a bulky driver update in general, adding optimisations for God of War as well equally some flashy new filters to enable in GeForce Feel (1 of them even has a decent crack at spoofing ray traced lighting furnishings). But if you own i of the best graphics cards from Nvidia's RTX range, it's DLDSR that could brand best use of its Tensor cores, by rendering games at a higher resolution before "intelligently" shrinking downward each frame to fit your monitor'south native res. The result: better-defined details and smoother edges. In theory.

Standard DSR already does this, of class, only eats an FPS drop in the process. Nvidia'southward idea is that DLDSR's Tensor-enabled AI enhancements tin can drastically reduce the performance hit that downsampling would commonly dish out. I'll be testing DLDSR in-depth next calendar week to see how true this is in different games, though since the driver is already bachelor, go ahead and effort it out yourself if yous want. (Update - it is now adjacent week, and I have indeed tested DLDSR. Information technology's pretty adept!)

Intentionally rendering games at college-than-native resolution might not make much sense if your PC hardware is already struggling to reach 60fps (or 144fps, or whatsoever your preference is). Indeed, y'all could argue DSR is only worth having in games where at that place's enough performance headroom to justify the loss in frames per second. DLDSR is evidently trying to minimise this tradeoff by keeping the fidelity enhancement while keeping performance as close to pure native level as possible.

A side-by-side comparison image showing Prey running at native 1080p, versus with Nvidia DSR and DLDSR.

Like Nvidia Image Scaling, DLDSR is driver-level tech, then should piece of work in well-nigh games every bit they are; if information technology plays past the same rules as DSR, any game that's compatible with the GeForce Experience app should too work with DLDSR. Beneath is a quick guide on how to ready it upwards, one time you've installed Game Ready Commuter 511.23 (and assuming you lot have a compatible graphics carte du jour).

How to utilise Nvidia DLDSR

Stride 1: Open up Nvidia Control Panel and click "Manage 3D settings" in the left sidebar.

Footstep 2: In the list of Global Setttings, gyre down to "DSR – Factors" and click where it currently reads "Off". This will bring upwards a list of rendering resolution options for both DLDSR and standard DSR.

Step 3: Click ane or both of the "DL scaling" options, then "OK" and "Apply".
